The Maginot Line (French: Ligne Maginot), named after the French Minister of War André Maginot, was a line of concrete fortifications, obstacles, and weapon installations built by France in the 1930s to deter invasion by Germany and force them to move around the fortifications. Constructed on the French side of its borders with Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and Luxembourg. Its length was about 450 km, and the construction consumed nearly 2.9 billion francs. Linia Maginota – nazwa stosowana na określenie francuskich fortyfikacji zbudowanych, a następnie wzmacnianych w latach 1929-1940 na wschodnich granicach państwa. Przeważnie mówiąc o „Linii Maginota” ma się na myśli najsłynniejsze umocnienia – na granicach z Niemcami i Luksemburgiem. Jej długość wynosiła ok. 450 km, a budowa pochłonęła blisko 2,9 mld franków.
